About our Parish

Parish Vision Statement

St. Martin de Porres Parish is a faith community gathering at our worship sites, St. Columba (Caledonia), St. Mary of the Assumption (Scottsville), and St. Vincent de Paul (Churchville), striving to live the sacramental life together through vibrant liturgical worship, loving service, and life-long faith formation for spiritual growth. Through wise use of our gifts, leadership, and shared resources, we are one community of Catholics worshipping our God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we embrace an atmosphere of belonging and discipleship to make visible the life and work of Jesus Christ.

Becoming a Parish -

Officially designated a cluster many years ago, the three woship sites of St. Columba Church, St. Mary of the Assumption, and St. Vincent de Paul coordinated a schedule of Masses and other services, and special liturgies at Christmas and during the Easter Triduum.

On July 1st, 2017, Bishop Salvatore Matano issued a decree that our three churches "shall by extinctive union be amalgamated one to another and so be constituted as a single parish." This action was taken to provide for continued ministry to the people of God in the territory of Caledonia, Churchville and Scottsville. We celebrated our new parish, St. Martin de Porres, with a special Mass and picnic. In 2022, we celebrated five years as a parish and celebrated with a picnic and retreat!

About our Parish -

Two of the three worship sites are in Monroe County with St. Mary of the Assumption, and St. Vincent de Paul Church; St. Columba is in Livingston County. The worship sites are each about 10 miles away from one another.

A Parish Pastoral Council representing the parish is a consultation group that is assigned to develop unity among our parishioners and assist our pastor with input, wisdom, and ideas. They are willing to listen and ask questions. The parish maintains a committee for Social Ministry, Liturgy, Finance, Cemetery, and Buildings & Grounds. These committees are made up of our parishioners who want to be more involved in the Parish of St. Martin de Porres.

The parish also maintains a collaborative relationship with St. Christopher’s Church in North Chili as part of the Diocese of Rochester's 5 Saints West Pastoral Planning Group. The relationship continues today with such events as a Lenten retreat among the 5SW parishes.
